school supplies

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the kids' school supply lists this year:
  • 1 box markers (12 count)
  • 1 dozen pencils (Ticonderoga is preferred)
  • 1 box crayons (16 count)
  • 6 glue sticks
  • 1 1” 3 ring binder (blue or white please)
  • 2 large boxes of tissues
  • 1 package Band-Aids
  • 3 packages of wet wipes
  • 1 ream of copy paper
  • 1 box watercolors
  • 1 pkg college rule notebook paper 12 pre-sharpened #2 pencils
  • 1 hand held pencil sharpener
  • 6 ball point pens – black or blue
  • 1 eraser
  • 1 clear plastic 12” ruler with standard and metric measurements
  • 2 college-ruled composition books
  • 1 composition notebook with grid pages
  • 6 pocket folders - pocket on bottom
  • 1 8 oz bottle white School Glue
  • 1 large glue stick (22 gram)
  • 1 pair scissors
  • 1 box 12 count colored pencils
  • 1 box 8 count washable thick markers
  • 1 box 8 count washable thin markers
  • 4 different colored highlighters
  • 2 extra fine point Sharpie markers (black)
  • 3 black thin-tipped Flair type pens (no Sharpies)
  • 1 graph paper composition book
  • calculator
  • a novel of the student's choice
  • refillable water bottle
  • 1 package of college-ruled notebook paper
  • 1 bottle of Elmer's glue
  • 1 spiral notebook (college-ruled - 70 non-perforated pages)
  • 5 Peechee-type plastic folders with pockets at the bottom
  • 2 dozen #2 pencils
  • 2 large containers of disinfectant wipes
  • 1 ruler - twelve inch, clear plastic
  • 1 bound, college-ruled composition notebook - 100 pages
  • 1 box of colored pencils - 12 to 24 count
  • 3 highlighters (different colors)
  • 1 school supply zipper pouch (no boxes please)
  • 2 large boxes of facial tissue
  • 1 16-color watercolor paint set
  • 1 3-ring binder (pencil pouch suggested)
  • 1 pencil sharpener with shavings trap
  • 1 transparent tape
  • 1 package of eraser caps
  • 1 box of sandwich bags (Ziploc)
  • 1 box of quart-size bags (Ziploc)
  • 1 basic calculator
  • 6 glue sticks
  • $10.00 for homework planner and science board
I actually thought some of the specifics were kind of funny... like a 22 gram glue stick.  I might just go for the 24 gram kind and see what happens.  And extra fine Sharpies, along with thin-tipped Flair pens that better not be Sharpies. Picky, picky, picky.

Holy carp, that is a lot of stuff. Does each child keep the stuff they buy or does it go into a box from which everyone pulls?

I think it varies by class and by supplies. Disinfectant wipes and tissues are communal; binders are personal. Not sure about the other things.

Wow. I do hope you copied and pasted that list!

Quite a list. Our district just had us write a check. Much easier :)

You'd think that if you got kids together you could negotiate a good price for all of this stuff. Certainly less expensive than each individual buying their own.

What's the collective noun for students? Ah yes! A "school".

Sigh.

P.S. Good on ya, Orinda.
